Abstract

Our article addresses Casa “Ãngel Palermâ€, an ethnographic field school model, established in Dallas, Texas, to recruit Latino students to the University of Texas. It was opened in Oak Cliff, one of the largest Latino barrios in Dallas, from 2000 to 2004. We describe our field school approach, its pedagogy, and its use for this mission. Our discussion also includes the intellectual tradition behind our efforts: the Ãngel Palerm “school of anthropologyâ€. We describe the field school’s collaborations with the Dallas County Community Colleges and other partners of the project. Casa “Ãngel Palerm†was a project designed to prepare, recruit, and retain Latino students at the university.
