Abstract

This paper analyzes the ambivalence experienced by women who have precarious jobs in regard to their obligations at home and the need to work out of necessity. We attempt to view it not as a synonym of confusion, but rather as the strength to resist and transform their torn-up inner selves into a strengthened collective self and a desire for justice. To this avail,we studied the case of women working in globalized industries in Central America that belong to social networks and organizational spaces from which they acquire new meanings to their work and lives. In particular, we analyze the family networks they build in order to assure their double presence at home and at their workplace. These networks are the basic social framework upon which these women build their occupational construct, in an ambiguous and conflictive relation, but none the less indispensable in their pursue of their own life projects.
