La sociedad civil en Cuba: barreras persistentes, emergencias recientes
Abstract
We discuss the recent development of Cuban civil society, characterized by restrictions arising from the current post-totalitarian regime and the emergen-ce of new identities and demands. Data derived from two series of interviews with officials, activists and academics, made at two moments of the Cuban current political process: the governments of Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz Canel. The work aims to account for the specificity of the framework in which members of emerging civil society act, as well as the demands they make, similar to those of their counterparts in other places of the world, including authoritarian junctuaries in our region in recent times.
