Abstract

The article presents the socio-environmental conflicts in overlapping areas between Protected Natural Areas and the Potiguara territories in northeast Brazil. The focus revolves around the confrontation between the logic of both indigenous land uses and environmental agencies. Ethnographies were carried out in localities located in overlap and a mapping of the uses of these areas. with analysis of interviews with indigenous people and agencies. We identified a plurality of traditional and non-traditional activities, which are subject to restrictions, prohibitions and sanctions. We concluded that the main conflict has its origin in the different rationalities and interests in dispute in the study area.
