Abstract

This article examines the conflicts over land, usufruct of rivers, lagoons and hot springs in the community of San José Manialtepec, Tututepec, on the Oaxaca coast, Mexico, caused by tourist activity. We analyze the construction of local tourist spaces in the framework of national and regional tourist relationships in the Oaxacan Coast and how actors of diverse scales and interests emerged and pushed tourist activities in communal lands of Chatina indigenous and Afro-Mexican peasants and mestizo population. We try to contribute to understand this region of Oaxaca, in addition to expand the literature on conflicts by territories, and observe their complexities and the actors that act and settle territorial conflicts.
