Representaciones sociales sobre la gestión del riesgo en el cine comercial de desastres naturales
Abstract
Humans exchange information and symbolic content; hence, communication is a form of action (Thompson, 1998: 25-27). Cinema is a source of information that modifies the behavior of its audiences. The objective of this article is to analyze 15 films about natural disasters to identify representations of risk. Content analysis identified three stages: pre, trans, and post-disaster, as well as some components of risk management. The article is organized into five sections: social representations; from disaster to the screen; disasters in cinema; stages of disaster, and final comments. It is concluded that more time is dedicated to the pre and trans-disaster stages, while social organization to reduce disaster risk is overlooked.
