Abstract

The aim of this article is to reflect on Ethnomusicology in Mexico in contrast with the academic research generated in the Nor thwestern region. The second part of the paper identifies some features of regional indigenous music according to Ethnographic data collected during rituals of indigenous groups of the region, especially with transcribed examples of Cahita and Yumana music of Baja California. Finally, it concludes with a reflection on the music of indigenous borderland societies, and on the implications of carr ying out ethno-musical research in the changing urban societies contexts which undergo abrupt changes of their cultural system.
