Hyperglobalization, Migrations and the New Rights Framework of Mexico City

Abstract

This text explores the need for building new conceptual frameworks centered around citizenship and public policies on human mobility, given the growing speed, depth and complexity of migratory processes amidst profound changes in global economic dynamics, growing inequality and the increasing perception of precariousness, insecurity, vulnerability and uncertainty among both central and peripheral countries. It explores the possible reasons for the growth of xenophobia, aporophobia and racism within public discourse and performs a first evaluation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, and Mexico City’s legal framework in the creation of an inclusive, human rights focused policy for the new migratory dynamics.
