Abstract

We analyze emblematic sections of documental trajectories concerning cases of summary execution occurred during police raids in favelas of Rio de Janeiro. This article is guided by the understanding that certain governmentality practices are directly articulated to bureaucratic formalities of police stations, forensic institutes and public defender’s offices, etc. The documentation produced by the State is seen as a key element in upgrading government gears that control territories and bodies. Through a methodological design that combines participant observation and ethnography of documents, we follow a bureaucratic route, that begins at the police station, of an autopsy report included in the investigation report send to the Public Ministry that makes the complaint, which finally reaches the criminal judge.
