This paper questions the act of crying and analyzes three suppositions commonly used in previous
research
that crying is merely the shedding of tears
that it is the opposite action of laughter
and that its comprehension is inscribed and limited to the human expression sphere. At the same time
it develops some arguments in order to postulate the need for approaching crying from a phenomenological perspective that accounts for the immediate experience of the event
without using theories that lessen the phenomenon’s richness. llanto
